Something savoury for a change. I decided today to go with a reflection shot, so I needed something that was simple but would reflect well. I opted for garlic bulbs.

A simple set up. Black background with a reflective surface and one spotlight off to the side of the garlic. I did try one bulb and one clove but decided that three bulbs with one clove seemed to work better aesthetically.

So, here’s today’s shot – Garlic

Sadly, today’s shot is just a quick shot and I’m not overly happy with it. I still have this stupid cold and my face is numb on one side and have ear-ache.

Anyway – Treacle Lattice Tart. I didn’t feel like getting my lights and tripod etc out so I took this in the kitchen using the natural light from the window as my light source. I didn’t have any cream so I used creme fraiche which has turned out a slightly odd grey/white colour.  I didn’t have any mint or other green leaves to decorate so I used (don’t laugh) some tiny leaves off my honeysuckle plant in the garden LOL. I did throw it away before anyone could eat it ;)

After a week of having flu and taking no food photographs whatsoever, I’ve now picked up my camera again. I was struggling for something foody to photograph, but thought the blackberries looked appealing. I tried with them in a dessert dish and some creme fresh on the top, but it didn’t look right against the white background. So I just left them in the punnet and put one to the side to give a little bit extra depth to the photograph.

Tomatoes

Well today I challenged myself to photograph something savoury instead of all the sweet calorie laden foods I’ve been photographing lately. So I decided to photograph tomatoes. This proved to be a complete pain in the photographic neck!

The main problem I had was ligthing. I tried using natural light from the kitchen window, but I just got the reflection of the window in the tomato. So I put a diffuser in front of the window, still got a window reflection, so I used my spotlight with the daylight bulb. i just got a really harsh spotlight reflection then. I almost gave up after 3/4’s of an hour getting nowhere.  I decided one last try and actually held the lamp directly above the tomato itself. This seemed to work! yay! I could have done with being an octopus really. I had the camera on the tripod, used the remote shutter release in one hand, lamp over the tomato in the other hand. This was the resulting shot. I am quite pleased with it, although I would have liked better focus on the water droplets, but hey ho.. it’s the best I got today.

The second shot is what I originally planned to take rather than the one above, but I’m not so happy with this one, although I do like the DoF.

Treacle Sponge and Custard

It looks sickenly sweet! The idea was to go for colour and textures with this shot. Lighting was a bit difficult because if it was too harsh it glared off the syrup and custard. Not enough light and the whole thing looked flat. Anyway, rot your teeth on this one :D

Treacle Sponge and Custard

I decided to start this blog as a way of keeping track of and displaying my Personal Photographic Project.

I challenged myself to an area of photography I’d not ventured into. The title is Anything Edible. As the title suggest, I will be taking photographs of anything related to Food and Drink.

I hope you enjoy my blog.
